Lavery Sabbatical Announcement

Lavery Sabbatical Announcement

For a Season of Renewal and Hope…

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3

Even when we don’t fully understand His ways, we can trust that God is always at work — shaping each season for His glory and the good of His people.

Over the past six years, under the faithful and visionary leadership of President Keith Lavery, God has brought about a remarkable season of growth and transformation for Society of Indian Missions (SIM). His fingerprints have been evident, guiding us into a new chapter of purpose and promise.

Here are just a few of the many signs of God’s faithfulness during this time:

  • New missionary families have joined the work, bringing fresh energy and deepening our impact.
  • Missionary care has reached new levels of excellence, ensuring our team members are supported and thriving.
  • Building Hope Enterprises was launched, providing life-giving discipleship and employment opportunities for native men right in their communities.
  • Ministry partnerships and charitable contributions have grown more than fourfold — a testimony to God stirring hearts to invest in eternal work.
  • Most importantly, we have seen native men, women, and families transformed by the power of the Gospel — walking in new life, freedom, and purpose.

We thank the Lord for sending such faithful laborers and for the exceptional leadership the Lavery family has offered — leading not only with vision, but with steadfast example.

A Season of Rest and Renewal

As stewards of the precious gift of leadership, the SIM Board of Directors has extended a 12-month sabbatical to President and Mrs. Lavery — an intentional season set apart for rest, renewal, and spiritual refreshment. This sacred pause allows space for restoration after many years of faithful, sustained service. During this time, Keith will continue investing in his greatest ministry passions: mentoring native men and pastoring their local church family.

We invite you to join us in expressing heartfelt gratitude for Keith and his family’s 20+ years of unwavering service to the Native community and the Kingdom of God. Their legacy continues to inspire, equip, and strengthen us all.

Moving Forward with Strength and Confidence

Throughout this season, SIM remains strong and focused. The Board of Directors remains fully engaged, providing shared leadership during the sabbatical. We are also pleased to announce that board member Rev. Mark Becker has been appointed to serve as Interim President. Mark and his wife Kristal bring with them over 35 years of ministry experience, including more than 15 years with SIM in both South Dakota and Canada. Their deep love for native ministry and proven leadership will guide us forward with grace and confidence.

The Lavery’s have expressed their full support and blessing for the Beckers and join us in prayer for God’s continued guidance and wisdom.

Will You Join Us in This Season?

Your prayers and ongoing financial partnership are as vital as ever. Your faithful support allows our leaders to rest, while ensuring that the mission remains fully engaged: mentoring and discipling native people to see lives changed and communities transformed by the hope of Christ.

As God continues to place eternity in the hearts of people, we remain committed to His calling — for such a time as this.

With gratitude and hope,
The Board of Directors
Society of Indian Missions
